What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is an ancient, natural, non-invasive health practice which assists the body’s own natural ability to balance, regulate and heal itself. Aromatherapy concentrates on the medicinal use of essential oils to treat and prevent a variety of ailments. There are three ways in which the body can absorb essential oils; inhalation, topically and orally (not recommended). At Om Air Escapes we focus on the most effective and natural process which is as simple as breathing. As we inhale air infused with essential oils, aromatics are absorbed through the lungs and respiratory system and then released into the blood stream. Once in the blood stream receptors are activated in our 'emotional brain' or better known as our limbic system. The limbic system is largely connected with our heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels and hormone balance. Thus, a simple inhalation can cause instant benefits throughout the body such as, kick-starting the digestive system to suppressing our stress hormones. A number of clinical studies have shown aromatherapy as a successful treatment for a variety of mental and physical conditions such as; anxiety, stress, infections, depression, insomnia, blood pressure, fatigue, headaches, pain, nausea, agitation and much more. Aromatherapy is both a preventative approach, as well as an active method to employ on a variety of conditions.

What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are the volatile oils or concentrated extracts which have been removed from plants, roots, leaves, or seeds. They are “essential” in the fact that they use the “essence of” the plant’s fragrance. The extraction of essential oils is an age old process, dating back to nearly 6,000 years ago, commonly done by distillation using steam. Depending upon the oil’s properties determines what and how the oil can be extracted and used for treatment. For example, lavender oil is extracted using steam distillation and can be used to induce sleep.

The Power of Ultrasonic Diffusers

In order to reap the most benefits of your essential oils, it is imperative to employ the use of a diffuser. Not only does a diffuser use a strong concentration of aromas, it doubles as a humidifier to bring moisturized air into any room. Humidified air also serves to enhance lives by repairing dry skin, lowering heating costs and warding off common flus, to name just a few. There are several different types of diffusers on the market today, however, the ultrasonic humidifier allows for the maximum amount of benefits with an affordable price for all households. Ultrasonic humidifiers work by vibrating a small metal plate which breaks water particles apart at ultrasonic speed, producing a cool and cleansing mist of aromas. Other benefits of ultrasonic technology include low-maintenance cleaning/replacement parts, portable size and almost silent operating. As well, ultrasonic humidifiers do not use heat, therefore, there is lowered safety risks, no wait time for a heating element to boil water and minimal electricity is required.
